MANITO, Albay— The BRTTH Pediatrics Department, Nutrition and Dietetics Service, and Public Health Unit combined their efforts to carry-out the third component of the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) for patients with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). Last May 18, 2018, a Community Mobilization and Kilatis Kutis Consultation was conducted at Manito, Albay, wherein the 2nd highest prevalent case of malnourished children below 5 years old in Albay province were noted.

Case finding for children aged 6 mos. – 70 months of age was conducted by the PIMAM Staff nurses using weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference, and testing for edema as parameters while the dietitians are doing Nutrition screening and Diet Counseling. Ms. Cecile B. Belen, RND talked about basic nutrition for children aged 6 months to 70 months, Infant and Young Child Feeding and Diet for Lactating Mothers. A total of 140 parents and 150 children have participated in the activity.

Community mobilization aims to encourage and engage the community to participate in the community in the management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) for children aged 6 months to 5 years of age.
